Sometimes things don’t go to plan. That’s what makes travel so exciting. I won’t bore you with the details but due to a flight delay and a missed flight we ended up having 8 hours in Los Angeles that we didn’t expect. Yes weren’t happy at the time (especially when we couldn’t get our bags for clean clothes) and we were exhausted but then our “adventure” side kicked in. We put everything behind us for one last experience and we are damn happy about it too.
Now we know that anyone who has traveled to Los Angeles before has more than likely been to Santa Monica Pier. This isn’t a story about that. It’s a story about borrowed time. We weren’t meant to be there. We didn’t plan on it, we didn’t pay for it, but we made the most of it.
Now we could get all philosophical about making the most of every moment but I’ll leave that for someone else. I’m more focused on the mindset. It’s why we travel. We could have stayed in the airport in one of the fancy lounges and whinged the whole time “why me”, looking into the bottom of our 3rd bowl of peanuts. Instead we swapped the airport for Santa Monica Pier and the empty peanut bowl for a Mexican feast with a bottle of Rosé.
Don’t let life pass you by – take it in your stride and run with it. It’s the unexpected that create the greatest memories and if that doesn’t do it for you, at least you have a cool story to tell. When like gives you a lemon, just squeeze it over your tacos!!!
